Bay Area Truck Crisis Center - Mike’s Truck and LINE-X performs upgrade to Karl’s 2014 GMC 4X4 Sierra. Upgrade includes 6″ suspension lift, tires and rims, AMP Power Steps with LED lighting, custom LINE-X premium spray-in bed liner, and Magna flow dual exhaust with black tips. Total time Karl’s truck spent at the Crisis Center - 4 days.

Waterproof Truck Roof - Waterproof RV Roof

Brand new $60k commercial work truck and the ceiling leaks soaking expensive tools and supplies. What? Work truck roof repair is required immediately. This vehicle is out of commission until this is resolved.

RVs and trucks similar to this have roofs that are designed to walk on – for viewing or holding extra equipment. The roof area, introduces a couple new challenges.

Most important the roof must be a waterproof. Second, it should provide some slip resistance. It is dangerous to walk on a roof that is wet and third, with all the flexing an RV or truck is subjected to going down the road it must not crack or peel. Last, it should add support when people are standing on it.

Maintaining a waterproof, slip resistant roof able to stand up against extreme temp changes requires new technology.

To solve the leaking roof we used LINE-X because of the unique properties it presents. For example, excellent adhesion, elongation, and stability under harsh conditions make LINE-X the prefect product to seal and protect an RV or truck roof. LINE-X along with already mentioned properties will also bring stability and adds strength to thin metal sheets.

To solve the slippery surface LINE-X of Bay Area used “shark bite” that was fused into LINE-X. The additional grip makes walking on a wet roof do-able. This same technique has been used to coat Rollup Passenger Ramps for both Oakland and San Francisco airports. It was also used to coat foot areas of S.W.A.T vehicles, Crab boats, step bars, K9 Police Cars and Fire truck access areas.

The water leak on this work truck was identified at the support beam welded to the center seam running from front to the back. The entire beam was caulked with waterproof caulk to keep water out at the factory!

LINE-X Warranty Update

LINE-X Warranty is Lifetime. I think we have all had issues with warranty at one point in our lives in which the fine print becomes Large and Bold. Listen, I hate to tell you, but your item is not covered under warranty.

Let me move off topic for a moment. I purchased a boat and paid extra for the extended warranty on the motor. Long story short, the motor blows. Take the boat to the dealership I purchased the boat from for evaluation. The mechanic says the motor failure was caused by a bad valve seat. The metal fragments from the valve seat traveled through the motor and pretty much destroyed it. Well the fine print covered some parts of the motor and not THE MOTOR failing.

Back on topic - here’s a lifetime warranty story that means exactly that. If the bedliner fails its covered PERIOD. And it’s covered at any franchise nationwide.

This customer purchased his LINE-X in Nevada in 2007 for his 1987 El Camino. Shortly afterwards he moves to California and garaged the vehicle. Several months later he notices a small blister. this blister as well as others start showing up all over his truck bed. Thinking that he would have to drive to Nevada for repairs - he lives with it.

Now flash forward to April 2014 - this customer decides he wants to sell his El Camino and digs out his warranty and reads - Lifetime Warranty Nationwide! and calls LINE-X of Bay Area. I tell him to bring his vehicle by for an evaluation and pictures. I send out the photos and within minutes obtain authorization. Another long story short - I call the customer back to tell him the news. Listen, your El Camino is covered - drop it off when you can and we will have it done in a week.

Line-X Copycat Bed Liner Is Very Expensive!

Here’s a another story in our Time is Money category. Had a customer come in this week looking for relief from rolling or spraying his own bed liner. Not sure which LINE-X Copycat Bed Liner product the customer used but to quote Kenny - It took me all day to apply this and a week to remove it.

Roll or Spray your own bed liner.

After a short period of time the LINE-X Copycat/Imposter bed liner started to breakdown. Just rubbing your hand over an area caused it to crumble. The customer asks, Is there a discount since most of the prep work is already done? Feeling Kenny’s pain - Yes we will discount our Line-X Premium bed liner. Line-X Premium is UV stable and carry’s a Nation Wide Warranty. The truck bed was not not ready for LINE-X however. We removed any and all remnant of the old liner before recoating with LINE-X Premium.

Unlike factory spray-in bed liners Line-X of Bay Area and Line-X of Silicon Valley do not spray over the bed or tailgate bolts. This allows for easy repairs on your tailgate or any problem that requires the truck bed to be removed. There is a reason the bed is attached via bolts and not simply welded. On a factory liner - these types of repairs would require cutting through the liner to reach the bolt. FYI, it will always look like a hack-job unless the entire bed is re-coated. Is Amazon Cheaper? Time Is Money!

Next time you go online and order your truck accessories, and plan on installing them yourself. Think about this, what happens if you are sent the wrong part, parts missing or worse yet - damaged parts? Best case scenario - the time involved with the project doubles. If you have a problem, we all know the routine - box up the part, ship it back to the manufacturer - wait for the new one and re-install. That is exactly what happened with this Retrax cover install this week.
Once the cover was completely installed the installer pulled out the cover and noticed a small dent in the middle of the cover. There is no way one could have discovered the flaw earlier. The customer was expecting their truck in 30 minutes. The customer shows up, I watch them walk around and inspect the cover, try it out a couple times and walk in the shop. Hey the Retrax looks cool and works great! All except for one thing, I told him. I have contacted the manufacturer and they are sending out a replacement. It will be here in a day I will call to setup an appt. The customer asks, “What’s wrong with it?” We walked out and I show him the dent - he was totally amazed that I labeled that a defect as well as had the replacement already on its way.

Line-X Copycats - Not Good For Dealer or Customer

We had a customer come in this week needing a quote to fix a bedliner issue installed by a reputable shop. Note, this shop has been in business in the SF Bay Area for a long time and has worked with dealers, body shops and customers. This problem has been a literal nightmare for the customer for the last 2 years. This shop has been reported to the Bureau of Automotive Repair, State of California to help resolve this. Line-X of Bay Area has been tasked to resolve this. Background, This lady has taken her truck back to have the bed liner repaired - ELEVEN TIMES.

Each time the product would fail after a month or two and then back for another round of fixes. One other note, the picture below shows how much product a customer actually receives when one selects a Line-X copycat. This truck bed bed liner actual thickness is 20-30 mils and the price the customer was charged - $450 cash(had to be cash). We at Line-X of Bay Area and Line-X of Silicon Valley spray SIX times this amount making the bedliner - 125 mils thick(1/8 inch).
