Meet Rusty. This 1980 Volkswagen meets Line-X.

January 16, 2015 | Posted in Line-X Bay Area, Mike's Truck | By

This cute little 1980 VW diesel pickup found its way in to Mike’s Truck & Line-X Bay Area badly in need of a new skin. Meet Rusty. We fell in love with this car and made it one of our shop cars. As you can see, Rusty needed some serious love. Lucky for Rusty, she has a straight body with no serious dents or damage which made this little Volkswagen an excellent candidate for a Line-X exterior. At Mike’s Truck we have the capability to mix any automotive paint color code in Line-X material. For this application we went with the same Chevy colors we used on our shop truck, Dark Gray bottom and Dark Blue on top.

The first step was to completely strip her down to a bare body - removing all the accessories, bumpers, mirrors, lenses, headlights, door handles, etc. Next step is the primer coat. This base coat is light gray Line-X applied to the whole body. Once the Line-X is applied, the surface is permanently sealed from moisture and rust. Then the Line-X color coat is applied.

Mike’s Truck & Line-X can custom finish your vehicle in the factory paint color you choose, or they can mix up a new custom color. The total process takes less than a week. Give us a call at the shop at 925.272.7666 or stop by and talk to Rich or Scott or Josh - don’t forget to bring your car with you, or atleast a bunch of pictures or a video so that they can get a really good idea what you want.

Join us on Twitter for the latest conversations.
We’d LOVE to hear from you! @mikestrucklinex

Hank the Happy Tank — PHASE II of III

January 12, 2015 | Posted in Line-X Bay Area, Line-X Silicon Valley, Mike's Truck, Truck Accessories | By

See PHASE I here: http://mikestruck.org/1986-quadratrack-mikes-truck-accessories-line-x

Now that the first phase has been completed - which was to remove external truck accessories, bumpers, mirrors, door handles, etc. Followed by sand blasting, sanding, welding, replacing and renewing any body damage. Including completely cutting off the huge portions of rusted out drip rail and then welding in a new (recycled) drip rail that we found on another van at a parts yard.

The body was then sealed in light gray Line-X as the primer. Mike’s Truck & LINE-X uses a 100% solids (no air pollution), thermoplastic polyurethane and polyurea. The materials are precisely dispensed through a high pressure polyurethane spray machine. The material is heated to 120-140 degrees with the temperature maintained through a heated hose. Using high pressure, the materials is applied. It takes less than 5 seconds for it to harden. As soon as it lands on the surface it’s dry! If it’s sprayed from too far away, it won’t stick because it will have already dried. Amazing material and process!

Mike’s Truck & LINE-X products are a fast-cure, multipurpose series of coatings designed for a wide range of retail, commercial, and industrial uses. They exhibit excellent adhesion to most properly prepared surfaces. There are no solvents associated with these products, which means there are no air pollutants or harmful environmental contaminates.

Mike’s Truck & LINE-X® Protective Coatings are resistant to most solvents and acids, making them ideal for industrial and commercial applications where corrosion is prevalent. This greatly extends equipment and vehicle life expectancy. It has a high “shore D” hardness rating, offering excellent impact resistance and superior tensile strengths (up to 6,600 psi) resulting in outstanding abrasion resistance. Because the material is sprayed there is a complete seal, making the coating “water tight”.

Mike’s Truck & LINE-X, Line-X of Bay Area, and Line-X of Silicon Valley are dedicated to your truck accessories and bed liner needs. Tailgate with us at the next SF 49er or Oakland Raider game!

Hank the Happy Tank - PHASE I of III

January 8, 2015 | Posted in Line-X Bay Area, Mike's Truck, Uncategorized | By

A very good client of ours brought his Special Edition 1986 Ford Quadratrack 4WD Van in to us here at Mike’s Truck & Line-X Bay Area. Some of you may know this Van as Hank the Happy Tank AKA ‘The Black Duck”. You may or may not be aware of this but there is a Facebook page with more than 35 likes (www.facebook.com/hankhappytank) photo journaling some of the Van’s adventures. As you can see, this 1 Ton Diesel has quite a bit of wear and use that needs to be re-aligned to put this Van back to it’s youth. Well Mike’s Truck & Line-X Bay Area is just the right place for that. When we’re done with it, it will be back to being the Off-Road monster Van it once was!

The Goal: Make it like new.
Fix all rust and corrosion inside and out.
Finish with Gray Matte Line-X Premium on the body.
Matte Black Line-X on the bumpers and roof rack.

PHASE I: After identifying rust and weak areas, we remove the mirrors, accessories, bumpers & roof rack. All rust and corrosion is sand blasted and/or sanded off. That nasty drip rail is re-welded. Holes are patch welded. Seams are made smooth. The whole exterior is scuffed & cleaned up for PHASE II.

PHASE II: Mask out & primer gray the surface. Next, apply a coat of paint color Line-X. See details here: mikestruck.org/?p=

PHASE III: Put everything back together and take some glamour shots!

Union City Water-Treatment Plant Emergency Bridges Saved from Elements

December 25, 2014 | Posted in Commercial, Line-X Bay Area | By

Mike’s Truck & Line-X Bay Area just completed refurbishing a set of emergency bridges for the Union City Water Treatment Plant Emergency Bridges saved from Elements. Water proofing these bridges with one Line-X application permanently seals the structure from moisture and guarantees that these bridges will never rust. Never rusting means never deteriorating.

These bridges were sitting in their Equipment yard in Union city. The bridges had been exposed to the elements for years because the paint had already broken down allowing rust to soon take over. Re-coating these structures made economical sense over replacing.

Line-X material is a heated sealing process that dries instantly when applied. It is particularly useful for iron, steel, metal surfaces that need to be protected from rust and the elements. In this application, the bridges are stripped by sand blasting and taken into the spray booth. After waterproofing with Line-X, a non-slip surface is installed. The result is an amazing non-skid waterproof finish that is guaranteed to last a lifetime. Line-x can be applied in any color to match your situation.

Call us today to discuss your commercial water-proofing needs.
If it can be sprayed, it can be saved - water-proofed with Line-X!

Line-X fixes University of Santa Clara Team Bus Leak

December 25, 2014 | Posted in Line-X Bay Area, Line-X Silicon Valley | By

  • The seam was leaking
  • All caulking was removed
  • Extensive crack went the length of the roof
  • The bus goes into the 35' spray booth
  • Scuff and clean
  • mask areas not to be treated
  • Ready for application
  • Scaffolding to reach the top of the bus
  • Drape and mask off finished areas
  • Line-X seals it up for GOOD!

Mike’s Truck & Line-X Bay Area permanently resolved a leak in the roof of a University of Santa Clara Team Bus.

The University of Santa Clara Team bus had leaked before and the solution was to apply caulking to the seam - you can see in the photos - the line that runs the length of the roof. To properly fix the leak, all of the caulking had to be removed and the roof scuffed. Then the entire bus was masked off to protect any areas from overspray.

Line-X is THE PERFECT SOLUTION for water-proofing because it is SIX TIMES more flexible than caulking and can be stretched 600% without failing. Guaranteed to not leak! PERFECT for the roof on a rolling, flexing bus or any RV roof repair.

As you can see, this is a very large size job, but we have the facilities to accommodate! The bus was brought into our 35 foot spray booth so that the material is sprayed in one application. After it’s sprayed it takes just a few seconds for the Line-X material to dry. It dries solid and seals out any moisture. It’s a thick indelible finish that will NEVER leak again!

Do you have something that needs to be protected from the elements?
Seal out leaks with one application of Line-X!

Alameda K9 Car Receives Upgrade

Line-X of Bay Area was tasked with improving Rin Tin Tin’s office. Rin had a habit of tearing up the rubber floor weekly. He also liked the fact the rear portion of the front seat was accessible when he was bored. The solution was to remove the rubber flooring material and coat it with LINE-X.
